Gena Nadeau is joining our Community Ed lineup this fall with her cooking class, A Taste of Italy - Chicken Scaloppine. Doesn't that make your mouth water just saying it?? Today, she is a guest blogger for our monthly instructor feature. Thank you Gena for joining our CE family! Welcome Gena!I retired in 1995, and in 1998 became a Pampered Chef consultant. Selling kitchen tools has further increased my love of cooking and baking.
I started teaching for NISD in 2013. A friend, Melissa Tarun, posted on Facebook that she was going to begin teaching classes for NISD’s Adult Ed program and I was intrigued. I called her for information, and she introduced me to the coordinator. I had been thinking about my Pampered Chef business and whether or not I wanted to continue it; it occurred to me that the part about the business I like the best is teaching, and joining NISD’s pool of teachers would allow me to do that. My passion for sharing and teaching comes from a belief that cooking for others is an act of love, kindness, and respect. Some anthropologists believe that cooking our food was truly what made us human! Prior to cooking our food, thereby making the calories more absorbable, we spent most of our time chewing (much like other primates do). Easier, more digestible calories allowed our brains to grow, which in turn led to speech, and then agriculture, and ultimately civilization. I subscribe to this belief as well! Cooking is alchemy. While we may not be able to turn lead into gold, we can take simple ingredients, cook them with care and skill, season them, and create something that is far greater than the sum of its parts. I’ve been married for 24 years to a retired Army guy. Army-Navy games are fun at our house. We have two grown children, and two grandchildren. In addition to cooking, I enjoy traveling, reading, gardening, mosaic tile projects, and I play the guitar.
