NEISD Community Ed is offering a five week Dog Obedience course starting June 15th with Linda Weniger, expert dog trainer for over 30 years now. Your pup will learn commands such as “heel,” “sit,” “stay,” “come,” and “down” through positive reinforcement. They say that a dog is a man’s best friend, but here at NEISD Community Ed, we say that an obedient dog is everyone’s best friend. Congratulations on making it through another school year, now let the fun times begin. If you or your children have not yet had a chance to enjoy one of our many classes offered through NEISD Community Education, now’s the perfect time to enroll. Summer youth classes will begin on June 13th with activities ranging from STEM based classes like Mad Science’s Camp Eureka! and John MacLaren’s Explode into Science class all the way to Fashion Designers and Fun with Photography. Your children will also want to stay active this summer in Basketball, volleyball and/or Hip Hop dancing – a few of our many physical activity class options. With over 50 classes to choose from, there’s sure to be one that sparks your child’s interest. Parents, we haven’t forgotten about you! Find yourself getting creative this summer by creating an art journal or hand building with clay. Step onto the dance floor with Latin Rhythms or Two Step & Country Western Swing. Or enjoy learning tips and tricks around the computer with one of our many computer skills classes. It’s an Ancient Wonder that has been used for over 800 years and continues to be used throughout the world today. There are several ways in which an abacus can be used to learn math while keeping children engaged in learning. As a hands-on manipulative, learning numbers, counting, regrouping, pattern identification, and basic math concepts such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing has never been so exciting! This retro calculator has easy to grasp concepts for young minds that helps develop a greater sense of numbers and builds confidence doing math. Adding in fun activities using card games and puzzles makes learning math using the abacus that much more enticing. Join NEISD’s Community Education in keeping your young one’s math skills growing this summer with the Abacus Club. Young minds will learn math concepts using the abacus as a visual tool and will be set up for success once school resumes in the fall.
