I love the quote that Eden Ashley lists on her blog, “It’s not your salary that makes you rich, it’s your spending habits.” By Charles A. Jeffe While many of us wonder why our pockets feel empty when our paycheck was just deposited, we should really stop and take a look at where our money is actually going. Do you budget? Or should I ask, do you stick to your budget? It’s easy to say that our entry-level position or even hourly job makes it impossible to get out of debt and build up a savings. Yet, so many find themselves debt-free after a few years of dedication and determination to focus on their finances. Eden’s blog, How I Saved $35,000 in Less Than Two Years on an Entry-Level Salary, really got me thinking about applying a realistic budget for my lifestyle, spending my money wisely and setting both short and long-term goals. Eden lists 10 easy-to-apply ways to get started on saving. From becoming a smart shopper to paying yourself first it’s time that we all inch towards the frugal life where debt-stress can eventually melt away and true living begins. How to you find yourself saving money these days?

Presidents’ Day was originally named a national holiday in honor of our nation’s first president, George Washington. February 22nd is his birthday, but in 1971 the Uniform Monday Holiday Act moved Presidents’ Day to the third Monday of February. The Uniform Monday Holiday Act was an act by Congress to create more three day weekends for our nation’s workers. (Yay for three day weekends!) Today, the holiday is now known for honoring all of our presidents. How much do you know about our former presidents? In honor of Presidents’ Day, here is a list of fun trivia I bet you never would have guessed about our presidents:
I remember when this book came out in 1993. I was working at a local bookstore in Ft. Worth, Texas and I bought a copy. I remember hearing about and even participating in people doing surprise acts of kindness for each other. I thought I was really cool the time I paid for the person’s meal behind me at the McDonald’s drive-thru. And it also felt really really good. I wish the movement had lasted a little longer. However, I’m happy the book is still around and even happier to know that there is now a National Random Acts of Kindness Day observed each year on February 17th. I hope this day will serve as a reminder to us all to put a little smile into someone else’s heart.
![]() Raise your hand if one of your New Year’s resolutions is to eat healthier. Now raise the other hand if you actually know what you’re doing. While eating healthier has been one of my recent goals it has proven to be quite difficult once I’ve exited the fresh produce section at the grocery store. I end up staring at labels full of words and percentages that really hold no current meaning to me. But thankfully the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has provided some help when it comes to understanding the nutrition facts label. Serving sizes, calories (and calories from fat), nutrients and the daily value are all broken down into easy to understand vocabulary that will leave you more confident when selecting foods at the grocery store. To read more about the breakdown of each category on food labels click here. We all know that there are several diets out there that promise weight loss. It seems like every day there’s some new trick to it. In reality, choosing food wisely, paying attention to what we’re consuming and eating with proportion control in mind is the best option. ![]() Deepak Chopra said, “You must find a place within yourself where nothing is impossible.” After suffering from stress and diet-related health issues, Andrea Meyer discovered Ayruveda and the Chopra Center in California. Andrea is very excited to bring these teachings to San Antonio and to help you make positive lifestyle changes.
