Let’s first take a look at what a resolution is… A resolution is a decision. A firm decision. It’s a decision that springs you into action or not. While there are 365 days of the year full of decisions… one day in particular leave us feeling like we need to plan ahead. December 31st. The one day where we feel like we need to make a resolution, or two or three before the ball drops just to see how well we can stick to it throughout the new year. ![]() According to statisticbrain.com, while 45% of Americans usually make New Year’s Resolutions, only about 8% are successful in achieving their goal. On which end of the spectrum do you find yourself? While I wouldn’t encourage you to set yourself up for failure, I do encourage you to challenge yourself in 2017. Be specific about what you want to accomplish and how. Find a way to measure it, give yourself a time frame and be realistic. Let’s be real, not many of us can really travel around the world in a year. Lastly, write it down and post it in a place where you can be reminded daily. Whether you find yourself making plans, goals or resolutions to accomplish something big or small throughout 2017, be intentional about moving towards a better you. Resource:

Who doesn’t love the holidays? I could go on and on about all of the beautiful components that the holidays consist of. There are holiday dinner parties with friends, visiting with family and of course, consuming as much pumpkin pie possible. Along with all of the wonderful things the holiday season brings, there is the inevitable traveling aspect, which can come with baggage (Get it? Haha!). I myself am traveling to New York for New Years. To get ready, I’ve done loads of research. Here are the five top traveling tips that should help ease the stress: 1. Plan for the unexpected. I mean it is the holidays after all—one of the busiest traveling times of the year. Many factors play into traveling, such as weather and the amount of people traveling. Have the necessities handy. Keep an extra phone charger and toothbrush in your carry on just in case you have to spend more time in the airport than originally planned. 2. Travel early or late in the day. The holidays are already a busy traveling season, so try to book the flights early in the morning or later in the evening. Your sleeping schedule may not like this idea, but you’ll thank yourself for interacting with the least amount of people possible. 3. Travel light. If the trip is short enough, try to not check a bag—especially if you have connecting flights. Having trouble deciding if what you want to pack is necessary or not? 4. Eat smartly. This isn’t something I would initially prioritize when it came to traveling, but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. Your body will thank you for choosing something jam-packed with natural energy when you are running around the airport, attempting to catch your connecting flight. (Don’t worry, you can indulge once you get to where you need to be. It is still the holidays. Who can say no to baked goods?)
5. Remember: others are stressed as well. This is probably the most important tip. You aren’t the only one sprinting across the airport or the only one who lost their luggage—trust me. Be kind to one another. A friendly smile can go a long way. And there you have it, the ultimate traveling guide! Happy traveling and stay warm! Ladies and gents of the North East community:

Every month there is a full moon and every year, December brings us the Full Cold Moon and well—tonight is the night. At 7:06PM, you will be able to view the moon in its entirety. December’s full moon is called a Full Cold Moon because it is associated with winter bringing in long, cold, dark nights.
When you hear that there will be a full moon, what comes to mind? By definition, ‘A full moon occurs when the sun, earth and moon are lined up, with the earth positioned in the middle. The sun’s rays directly hit the moon, allowing for full illumination from an Earth perspective.’ Aside from the scientific aspect, a lot of superstition comes along with talk of a full moon. We all know that the moon effects the tide, and because our bodies are made up of 75% water, some believe the full moon can effect human behavior. Some would even go as far to say that WEIRD things happen when there’s a full moon out. Some superstition deals with the name of this particular full moon, the Full Cold Moon. ‘The cold moon isn’t very cold at all. It helps us settle in after the reflection brought to us from the frosty moon, turning our focus inward so we can get clear on what we want and who we want to be. What lights us up? What sparks our inner passion? The old, brittle parts of ourselves that no longer serve our higher purpose fall away. Crystals charged beneath the cold moon help us to be sincere and honest with ourselves.’ Whether you are superstitious or not, you can’t deny the powerful presence a full moon brings. The moon is always in the sky, but only do we get to see it in full once a month. Check out these breathtaking pictures of previous full moons: Winter is here in San Antonio, and along with the cold weather comes winter holidays. Happy holidays, Community Education Staff Human Rights Day, an international holiday that not many people are aware of. It’s funny to think that the most inclusive holiday to the human race often goes unnoticed.
Human Rights Day recognizes the day in 1948 that the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. What is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, you ask? The Office of the High Commissioner explains it as ‘Drafted by representatives with different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, it set out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected.’ Among the list of fundamental human rights are the right to equality, right to life, liberty and personal security, freedom from slavery, right to marriage and family, freedom of belief and religion, right to peaceful assembly and association, right to education and many, many more. The UN’s theme for Human Rights Day this year is all about standing up for someone else’s rights. ‘This year, Human Rights Day calls on everyone to stand up for someone's rights! Many of us are fearful about the way the world is heading. Disrespect for basic human rights continues to be wide-spread in all parts of the globe. Extremist movements subject people to horrific violence. Messages of intolerance and hatred prey on our fears. Humane values are under attack.’ For more information on Human Rights Day 2016, check out their website here.
