Christopher Winstead of Onsite Youth Training took over teaching our “Let’s Dance” after school classes for NEISD Community Education in the spring of 2017. About a month after classes began, Chris and some of his NEISD students were already dancing their way into viewers' hearts with Mike and Fiona on KSAT12’s SALive! At OYT, their focus is on after school where their classes are educational and fun. “At OYT, our goal is to make sure our students enjoy their time with us and leave with new skills,” said Winstead.
Chris started OYT in 2014 as a way to use his 20 years of dance experience combined with his years of working for school districts to bring fun and healthy classes to students. His passion is to provide a healthy hobby for students and jobs for the community. As a youngster, Chris was part of a dance group that would perform and compete throughout northern California. Chris also had the opportunity to travel, teach and compete internationally. Chris found his inspiration in his aunt and a mentor from his high school days, Nino. His aunt owns an architecture firm in Hawaii and he says, “It was inspiring to see that someone in my family was able to build a business that provided jobs and brought joy to people.” Nino has always been a positive role model for Chris who made sure he stayed on the right track. He built a real estate company that also provides jobs and brings people joy. “Having these two influential and positive people in my life has had a profound impact on me.” Chris hopes to give back to our community and provide the same inspiration to our NEISD youngsters that was given to him as a kid. This coming school year, he has revamped his after school dance classes into “Kids in Motion Hip Hop” offered to children in grades K-5 at nine North East ISD elementary schools. He is also joining us on Saturday, October 7th for a “You & Me Hip Hop” class for children ages 7 and up and their parents and “Dancing through the Decades” for children ages 7-12 to learn a variety of dance moves from the running man to disco! To find out more about Onsite Youth Training’s classes, click here. Parents are also welcome to visit the OYT website at www.OnsiteYouth.com. Summer has come and gone and the hustle and bustle of preparing for the school year ahead is in full swing. From school supplies, backpacks and lunchboxes to shopping for outfits, there’s much to get done on the back-to-school list. Before we know it, teachers will anxiously await for their new set of students, the school bell will ring and classrooms will be filled. A great sigh will be released knowing that your children are in safe hands, but are you ready for the after school bell? Don’t worry, we have you covered! Community Education offers a variety of after school classes that are sure to spark your child’s interest and keep them learning after school. At participating NEISD elementary schools, you can find art, drama, robotics, piano, dance and more! Click here for a full list of available classes. In addition, keep an eye out for flyers coming home during the first week of school. After school classes will begin the week of September 11. Registration is currently open and spots will fill up quickly. Don’t delay, register today! Gena Nadeau is joining our Community Ed lineup this fall with her cooking class, A Taste of Italy - Chicken Scaloppine. Doesn't that make your mouth water just saying it?? Today, she is a guest blogger for our monthly instructor feature. Thank you Gena for joining our CE family! Welcome Gena!I retired in 1995, and in 1998 became a Pampered Chef consultant. Selling kitchen tools has further increased my love of cooking and baking.
I started teaching for NISD in 2013. A friend, Melissa Tarun, posted on Facebook that she was going to begin teaching classes for NISD’s Adult Ed program and I was intrigued. I called her for information, and she introduced me to the coordinator. I had been thinking about my Pampered Chef business and whether or not I wanted to continue it; it occurred to me that the part about the business I like the best is teaching, and joining NISD’s pool of teachers would allow me to do that. My passion for sharing and teaching comes from a belief that cooking for others is an act of love, kindness, and respect. Some anthropologists believe that cooking our food was truly what made us human! Prior to cooking our food, thereby making the calories more absorbable, we spent most of our time chewing (much like other primates do). Easier, more digestible calories allowed our brains to grow, which in turn led to speech, and then agriculture, and ultimately civilization. I subscribe to this belief as well! Cooking is alchemy. While we may not be able to turn lead into gold, we can take simple ingredients, cook them with care and skill, season them, and create something that is far greater than the sum of its parts. I’ve been married for 24 years to a retired Army guy. Army-Navy games are fun at our house. We have two grown children, and two grandchildren. In addition to cooking, I enjoy traveling, reading, gardening, mosaic tile projects, and I play the guitar. Do you find yourself enamored by professional photographs? Do you catch yourself awe struck over the quality and details found within images? What would you do if I told you that you too were capable of creating beautiful, frame-worthy photographs?
Here’s your chance! Vamp up your summer vacation pictures and take your photography skills to the next level with professional photographer, S. Janette Constantino! Whether you are a beginner photographer, are already on chapter 2 of the process or are just looking to spice up your photos, Community Education has a class for you.
We all take photos with hopes of capturing the moments that will last a lifetime. So why not learn how to capture them in their full glory with tips and tricks of the trade? Register today as space is limited! To register click on the class titles above or visit https://communityed.neisd.net and search photography.
