An abacus is more than JUST a toy… it’s a mathematical genius! It’s an Ancient Wonder that has been used for over 800 years and continues to be used throughout the world today. There are several ways in which an abacus can be used to learn math while keeping children engaged in learning. As a hands-on manipulative, learning numbers, counting, regrouping, pattern identification, and basic math concepts such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing has never been so exciting! This retro calculator has easy to grasp concepts for young minds that helps develop a greater sense of numbers and builds confidence doing math. Adding in fun activities using card games and puzzles makes learning math using the abacus that much more enticing. Join NEISD’s Community Education in keeping your young one’s math skills growing this summer with the Abacus Club. Young minds will learn math concepts using the abacus as a visual tool and will be set up for success once school resumes in the fall. Watch this short video created by GuruParents to better understand how numbers are used using the abacus. You won’t want to miss out on the first Abacus Club this summer!
