Everyone knows that Tuesday is Taco Tuesday. It’s my favorite day of the week. (It’s always nice to have an excuse to eat tacos once a week… right?) Come to find out, there’s an actual national holiday for tacos AND it falls on a Tuesday! October 4th is National Taco Day.
Tacos seem to get trendier and trendier, but they’ve been around for a while now. According to the official National Taco Day website, anthropologists found evidence that “inhabitants of the lake region of the Valley of Mexico ate tacos filled with small fish” dating back to the 16th century. It seems like almost everything has been in a taco— we’ve gone from small live insects, locusts, snails, brain, and tongue to filling our tacos with sweet potatoes, avocado, fried mushrooms and poblano peppers. Want to participate in this joyous celebration of food? Check out these recipes for your National Taco Day dinner.. or any other Taco Tuesday.
