Christopher Winstead of Onsite Youth Training took over teaching our “Let’s Dance” after school classes for NEISD Community Education in the spring of 2017. About a month after classes began, Chris and some of his NEISD students were already dancing their way into viewers' hearts with Mike and Fiona on KSAT12’s SALive! At OYT, their focus is on after school where their classes are educational and fun. “At OYT, our goal is to make sure our students enjoy their time with us and leave with new skills,” said Winstead.
Chris started OYT in 2014 as a way to use his 20 years of dance experience combined with his years of working for school districts to bring fun and healthy classes to students. His passion is to provide a healthy hobby for students and jobs for the community. As a youngster, Chris was part of a dance group that would perform and compete throughout northern California. Chris also had the opportunity to travel, teach and compete internationally. Chris found his inspiration in his aunt and a mentor from his high school days, Nino. His aunt owns an architecture firm in Hawaii and he says, “It was inspiring to see that someone in my family was able to build a business that provided jobs and brought joy to people.” Nino has always been a positive role model for Chris who made sure he stayed on the right track. He built a real estate company that also provides jobs and brings people joy. “Having these two influential and positive people in my life has had a profound impact on me.” Chris hopes to give back to our community and provide the same inspiration to our NEISD youngsters that was given to him as a kid. This coming school year, he has revamped his after school dance classes into “Kids in Motion Hip Hop” offered to children in grades K-5 at nine North East ISD elementary schools. He is also joining us on Saturday, October 7th for a “You & Me Hip Hop” class for children ages 7 and up and their parents and “Dancing through the Decades” for children ages 7-12 to learn a variety of dance moves from the running man to disco!
