Maren Phillips began painting at age three by “copying the comics” and other than a period of about eight years, she has never stopped. After her eight-year hiatus, Maren dusted off her drawing pads and participated as a vendor in a church festival drawing portraits. That’s when it all came back to her. Maren began drawing and painting dog portraits at dog shows and did so for about 25 years.
Maren decided to make another change and devoted herself to obtaining a Masters of Fine Arts degree. Her plan was to teach at the local university. However, she was once again led in a different direction and that’s when Maren found us. She finds teaching Community Education classes “fun and exhilarating.” In each class she teaches she loves to “wake up minds and brains to seeing differently.” This summer she is teaching an abstract painting class for the first time and she says she “loves it!” When not teaching a Community Ed art class, Maren travels across the country promoting and painting en plein air (painting outdoors). She takes commissions for portraits (people and pets) and sells her paintings in galleries all over the United States. Maren also teaches privately and in smaller workshops in San Antonio. You can find out more about her at www.marenphillipsartlines.com. This fall she is planning to teach Beginning Watercolor, Drawing Basics, Adventures in Oil Painting, Portrait Painting and Quick Studies in Painting. Class details will be revealed on July 18 so stay tuned!
