No, Presidents’ Day is not just another day off of school or work! Presidents’ Day was originally named a national holiday in honor of our nation’s first president, George Washington. February 22nd is his birthday, but in 1971 the Uniform Monday Holiday Act moved Presidents’ Day to the third Monday of February. The Uniform Monday Holiday Act was an act by Congress to create more three day weekends for our nation’s workers. (Yay for three day weekends!) Today, the holiday is now known for honoring all of our presidents. How much do you know about our former presidents?
